What is the Best Time to Visit Kedarnath Dham?

Summer

After harsh winters, the mountains are beautiful in spring and summer, the valleys are in full bloom with great varieties of flowers. April to June is the best time to visit Kedarnath Temple. These months are also best for visiting Kedarnath temple. Gangotri and Yamunotri are located at higher elevations, so summer begins a little later, around the end of April. It is advisable to carry warm clothes even during summer, as it can get very cold in the evening. Taking a basic medical kit along with medicines for common diseases like headache, fever, cold etc. will be very useful.

Monsoon

The monsoon reaches Char Dham at the end of June and continues till the end of September. With heavy rains, landslides and flooding due to swollen rivers during the monsoon season is quite common and traveling is not really fair.

Another window of a good season for travel comes from late September to mid-November. It is pre-winter in the mountains when the valleys are lush with greenery after a great monsoon and winter hardness does not begin. This is the best time to visit Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.

Winters

Winters arrive in late November and last until March. Due to heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, darshans are stopped after Diwali. The Char Dham temples open for darshan only in the spring during the Hindu festival of Akshaya Tritiya.

Before leaving for your Char Dham Yatra you should know that rugged roads, rocky terrain, and treacherous climate test your strength and endurance every moment. The Himalayan climate is highly unpredictable and is constantly fluctuating. Therefore, it is advisable to do careful research about the best time to visit Kedarnath before the journey becomes difficult. For those who can manage treacherous terrain, trekking, sedan rides or pony rides are the best options. Alternatively, you can opt for a helicopter service for Chardham Yatra, for a more comfortable journey.
